# R.m.s. values

The r.m.s. value of voltage and current can be calculated as a function of the r.m.s. value of the various harmonic components:

${\displaystyle I_{rms}={\sqrt {\sum _{h=1}^{H}I_{h}^{2}}}={\sqrt {I_{1}^{2}+I_{2}^{2}+\dots +I_{H}^{2}}}}$

${\displaystyle V_{rms}={\sqrt {\sum _{h=1}^{H}V_{h}^{2}}}={\sqrt {V_{1}^{2}+V_{2}^{2}+\dots +V_{H}^{2}}}}$
